Trauma & PTSD

Trauma & PTSD Treatment

Specialized, compassionate care for the lasting effects of overwhelming experiences.

Trauma can change how a person feels in their body, relates to others, and responds to everyday stress. Even long after an event has passed, the nervous system may remain on alert, leading to anxiety, mood instability, sleep disruption, or emotional numbness.

At Scottsdale Counseling & Wellness, we provide trauma-informed therapy and psychiatric services designed to help individuals regain a sense of safety, control, and connection.

You do not need to keep reliving what happened in order to heal.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

PTSD may develop after events such as accidents, medical experiences, violence, loss, or other situations that overwhelm a person’s ability to cope.

Symptoms can appear immediately or years later.

Signs Trauma May Be Affecting You

  • feeling constantly on edge

  • intrusive memories or nightmares

  • avoiding reminders of the event

  • emotional numbness

  • sudden anger or irritability

  • difficulty trusting others

  • problems with sleep or concentration

  • feeling disconnected from yourself

Many people are surprised to learn these are common trauma responses, not personality flaws.

Our Approach to Trauma Treatment

We focus on helping the nervous system regain stability while building insight and practical coping tools.

Care may include:

trauma-informed psychotherapy
skill development for emotional regulation
support for relationship and identity changes
psychiatric evaluation when appropriate
attention to how trauma interacts with hormonal or medical factors

Treatment is collaborative and paced according to readiness.

Trauma in Women’s Health

For many women, trauma intersects with experiences such as pregnancy, childbirth, infertility, chronic illness, or major hormonal transitions. These moments can intensify prior wounds or create new ones.

Our clinicians are experienced in recognizing these layers and providing care that feels respectful and safe.

When Weekly Therapy Isn’t Enough

Some individuals benefit from more structured and frequent support. Our Women’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers several days per week of treatment while allowing participants to remain at home.

A Boutique, Relationship-Based Model

Healing from trauma often requires trust. We emphasize consistent providers, smaller groups, and individualized planning so patients feel known and supported.

You Are Not Broken

Your reactions developed for a reason. With the right treatment, they can soften, reorganize, and allow you to move forward.
